Through Galicia and Bukovyna

Day 1
Arrive in Lviv. Hotel check-in. Guided sightseeing tour of the city to visit St. George cathedral from the 18th c., Lviv University complexes, Lychakiv cemetery – the Ukrainian pantheon, one of the most beautiful cemeteries in Europe that actually looks more like a sculptural garden and enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of the city from the High Castle Hill. Dinner at the hotel.

Day 2
09:00 am – walking tour of medieval Lviv. You begin in the main square, the Rynok (Market) square with Renaissance facades from the 16th c., Town Hall building, fountains, the late 16th c. Ukrainian orthodox church, the largely Gothic Roman-Catholic cathedral, the ancient Armenian cathedral with parts dating back to the 14th c. 01:00 pm – lunch break. 03:00 pm – visit to the Lviv Art Gallery. 05:15 pm – visit to the renown Lviv Opera House.

Day 3
08:30 am – depart for Brody, a town which was like a boarder town of the Habsburg’s Empire. Visit to the local high school, remains of the synagogue, the Jewish cemetery. At about midday depart for the village of Pidhirtsi to explore a local palace. When Louver was being built, they used the Pidhirtsi palace as a model. 01:30 pm – lunch at the restaurant “Hrydnytsya”. 03:00 pm – visit to the castle located in the town of Olesko. 04:30 – depart for Lviv.

Day 4
09:00 am – outside city tour to the town of Zhovkva which is a beautiful Renaissance architecture town where you visit St. Laurence cathedral, Nativity church, the Synagogue, unique of its kind, the castle with its fortifications. After exploring Zhovkva we take you to the Krekhiv monastery located in the forest far away from the city life… miraculous icons, a beautiful wooden church, a spring with holy water… On the way to the monastery you may stop to see the graves of the soldiers perished in World War I. Dinner back in Lviv.

Day 5
09:00 am – visit to the town of Drohobych, the second largest town after Lviv in the area. On the way stop in Truskavets, a popular Ukrainian spa which is famous for its most unique mineral water ‘Naftusya’ (‘Oil Water’)

Day 6
09:00 am – depart for the city of Ivano-Frankivsk. En route – stopover in the town of Halych, a former capital of Galician principality. Visit to the national preserve Old Halych and the museum of the Karaite culture, unique of its kind in this country. Arrive in Ivano-Frankivsk (also known as Stanislaviv). City tour.

Day 7
Depart for Bukovyna. You will make quite a few stops on the way like in the town of Yaremche, a famous resort in the Carpathian mountains famous for its artisans and craftsmen. Shopping at the local bazaars. Visit to the town of Kolomyya, a center of the Hutsul art (the hutsuls are one of the ethnic residential groups who live in the Carpathians). Exploring the museum of the Hutsul People and the Easter Egg Museum. Depart for the city of Chernivtsi. Hotel check-in.

Day 8
The whole day exploring Chernivtsi.

Day 9
Depart for Halychyna. Visiting towns of Chortkiv, Terebovlya, Zolochiv. Arrive in Lviv for farewell dinner.

Day 10
Catching the last minute shopping or walking down the streets of Lviv. Depart for homeland.
